Jessica Nazaroff, Executive Director / Co-Founder
The pioneer of Feed Our Future, she grew up in Fresno County and graduated from Fresno State University in 2000 with a degree in social work education. Upon reading about a national backpack program that provided food to hungry kids on the weekends, this local mom of three school age children felt a stirring to look more closely at childhood hunger in our local community. What she found broke her heart. Although she experienced many closed doors in her path, she kept pushing forward and Feed Our Future was born. Her vision is reach multiple school sites around Fresno County, feed those children that need it the most while providing an opportunity for the local community to join her in feeding hungry little bellies.
“For it is in giving, that we receive.” JN
Shelby Dart, Chief Financial Officer / Co-Founder
Fresno became home again for Shelby in 2005. The product of divorced, frustrated parents, she grew up all over the State of California and Oregon, with most of her adolescence time spent in Fresno and Madera. Shelby’s family was a food insecure household growing up. She remembers being so hungry, she would fall asleep in class and her walk home from school was a heavy burden. She was embarrassed to use the tickets for free lunch because she was the only one in the free lunch program in her group of friends. Years ago, Shelby saw an interview about a national backpack program to feed hungry kids. The burn in her belly began those years ago and when Jessica had this idea, Shelby immediately felt a raging fire in her own heart and immediately jumped on board.
“We are given one life to love and give. Consider it paid forward for all those who fed, clothed and helped me in to this abundant life that I have.” SD
